Public Lecture - UN and Indian Peacekeeping
PKJCSS on 8th November conducted an enriching public lecture on United Nations and Indian Peacekeeping Operations’ by our guest speaker Brigadier V Vidyashankar. Brigadier V Vidyashankar is a serving officer of the Indian Army currently posted along the North Western Borders of India. He is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned to the Infantry in 1997. The officer has represented India in an UN Peacekeeping Mission at Congo and has also headed the prestigious Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping, New Delhi as its Director.
The speaker for the session discussed the historical evolution of UN Peacekeeping Missions and India’s role in it in detail and also highlighted the importance of considering changing geopolitical dynamics in the peacekeeping context. He also mentioned about the gender inclusivity in the peacekeeping operations and what are the challenges and recommendations to reform the approach to peacekeeping.
The session was followed by an insightful question and answer round. We would like to thank our speaker, participants and Centre Director Prof. Gitanjali Sinha Roy for making this discussion a success
Public Lecture - Terror Finance - Past and Current Trends
On 28th October PKJCSS conducted an insightful public lecture on ‘Terror Finance - Past & Current Trends,
Prospects and Challenges’ by Col. Vivek Chadha (retd.). Col Vivek Chadha (retired), served in the Indian Army for 22 years and had joined the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MPIDSA) in November 2011 and is a Senior Fellow at the Military Affairs Centre.
The lecture included aspects of exploring the complexities of terrorism financing: From traditional methods to emerging digital threats, Colonel Chadha's insights in the discussion highlighted the urgent need for innovative strategies and international collaboration to combat this evolving challenge.
We would also like to thank all the participants for joining us and our centre director Col. Shashank Ranjan (retd.) for coordinating the event and making it a success with his valuable insights.
Newsletter Discussion - Global Elections 2024: Navigating a Changing World
On 21st October, our centre director Dr. Pooja Bhatt was a panelist for a panel discussion on ‘Global Election 2024: Navigating a changing world’ organised by ‘Diplomania’ the flagship society of JSIA where she joined in for an enriching discussion on the topic ‘Future of Regional Dynamics and Multilateral Organisation and International Issues and Policies- The Way Forward’
Lecture on "Understanding Sustainable Development in the Indo-Pacific: Analysis of Climate-Induced Migration and Vulnerabilities."
On the 11th of October 2024, the PKJ Centre for Security Studies had the privilege of hosting an online public lecture by Dr. Nanda Kishor M S, Head and Associate Professor at Pondicherry University. The event, titled "Understanding Sustainable Development in the Indo-Pacific: Analysis of Climate-Induced Migration and Vulnerabilities," focused on sustainable development in the Indo-Pacific and its impact on climate change and environmental movements.
Lecture on Terrorism and its Financing: A Focus on Kashmir by Dr. Abhinay Pandya
The Pankaj Kumar Jha Centre for Security Studies (PKJCSS) was honored to host Dr. Abhinav Pandya, a leading expert in counter-terrorism, on 13th September 2024, for a lecture titled "Terrorism and Its Financing: A Focus on Kashmir." The speaker explored the historical roots and evolution of terrorism, emphasizing case studies from Kashmir, while also providing valuable insights into the complexities of terrorism and its financing.
Lecture on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's contribution to the Indo-Japanese Relationship by Prof. Kasai
The Pankaj Kumar Jha Centre for Security Studies (PKJCSS) was honored to host Professor Kasai, a distinguished visiting associate professor from the University of Japan, on 20th September 2024. The speaker primarily discussed Prime Minister Abe's contributions to the India-Japan partnership and his vision for the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing Abe's strategic leadership in fostering bilateral relations and promoting regional security and cooperation.
Workshop on Counter-Terrorism by Assistant Director of PKJCSS Col (retd.) Shashank Ranjan
The Pankaj Kumar Jha Centre for Security Studies, in collaboration with Diplomania, hosted a counter-terrorism workshop on September 9, 2024, led by Prof. Shashank Ranjan. Participants engaged in realistic simulations of terrorism scenarios in South Asia, enhancing critical thinking and negotiation skills through dynamic role play and collaborative problem-solving.
Book Talk : Emerging Digital Technologies and India's Security Sector: AI, Blockchain, and Quantum Communications.
On August 30, 2024, the Pankaj Kumar Jha Centre for Security Studies (PKJCSS) hosted a book discussion on "Emerging Digital Technologies and India’s Security Sector: AI, Blockchain, and Quantum Communications" (A Routledge Publication). The event featured the editors and contributors, including Dr. Arun Teja Polcumpally, Mr. Vedant Saigal, and Dr. Poornima R. Vijaya. The book offers an introductory analysis for policymakers, academics, and interested readers on the application of cutting-edge digital technologies in the Indian military.
Mr. Rikuto Ito
On 13th September 2023, the Center for Security Studies was honoured to have Mr. Rikuto Ito, Administrative Attache, Embassy of Japan, New Delhi, come to OP Jindal Global University for a talk on the theme "Japan’s Indo-Pacific Perspective on India-Japan Relations".
Vietnamese Delegation
On the 10th of October 2023, the Centre for Security Studies had the privilege of hosting a Vietnamese Delegation, led by Dr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, at O.P Jindal Global University. The event was organized to foster international relations and promote cultural understanding between India and Vietnam.
Prof. (Dr.) Christian Kaunert
The Center for Security Studies (CSS) was honored to host Prof. (Dr.) Christian Kaunert, a distinguished professor of International Security at the Dublin City University, Ireland, on 26th October 2023. The speaker primarily discussed the efforts undertaken by the European Union to counter international and domestic terrorism.
Book Talk "India's Nuclear Titans: A Biographical Framework"
The Centre for Security Studies (CSS) conducted a book talk on 4th March 2024 and invited Dr. Soumya Awasthi and Dr. Shrabana Barua, editors of “India’s Nuclear Titans: A Biographical Framework”. Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of India's nuclear test program, notably the Pokhran-II tests or Operation Shakti, this publication marks a significant milestone, offering an in-depth exploration of the personalities, policies, and pivotal moments that have shaped India's nuclear trajectory.
